A: About 45 minutes beyond Nainital, the roads get quieter, the forests get denser, and mobile networks slowly stop mattering. That’s Pangot. Seclude Pangot Perch sits tucked into one of India’s most loved birding regions, Kilbury bird sanctuary, surrounded by oak and pine forests.
Pantnagar Airport is the nearest airport, roughly 75 km away, while Kathgodam is the closest railway station. From there, it’s a scenic mountain drive through Nainital and into Pangot village.
Address: Bagar Rd, Pangoot, Bagar Talla, Uttarakhand 263159
✦ Reach before dark if you can — the valley views on the drive in are part of the experience.
A: Eight private cottages, each named after birds and insects you’re likely to actually come across in Pangot’s forests — Fireflies, Ladybird, Grasshopper, Dragonfly, Blackbird, Blue Dasher, Butterfly, and Queen Bee.
A few guests specifically ask for are Fireflies, with its romantic four-poster canopy bed facing a wide valley window, and Grasshopper, one of the largest cottages on the property, with bay windows that fill the room with mountain light through the day.
Across the property, the cottages follow a warm mountain aesthetic — wooden interiors, large picture windows, rustic locally sourced materials, and sit-outs overlooking the valley.
✦ The mornings here feel very different depending on your cottage — birds outside the window, fog rolling through the valley, and almost no sound except the forest waking up.
A: Pangot is best known for its forests, birdlife, and the kind of quiet that’s becoming harder to find. Over 250 species of birds have been spotted here, including Himalayan griffons, barbets, and woodpeckers, which is why birdwatchers return season after season.
You can trek through oak and pine trails, visit Kilbury Bird Sanctuary, head to Naina Peak for Himalayan views, spend an afternoon at Tiffin Top, or drive to Snow View Point overlooking the snow-capped ranges. Naina Devi Temple and Nainital are also close enough for an easy outing.
At the property, things stay slower — forest picnics, candlelight dinners, karaoke nights, movie screenings, bonfires, and even adventure camp setups for groups and families.
✦ Pangot works best when you don’t overplan it — the forests tend to decide the pace for you.
A: Mostly the kind that make sense in the middle of a forest. Guided birdwatching walks, forest picnics among oak and pine trees, bonfire evenings, movie nights under the stars, karaoke sessions, and easy treks through nearby trails can all be arranged.
The property also works especially well for groups — there’s enough open space for outdoor activities, campfire evenings, and slower days spent entirely outdoors.
✦ Even guests who arrive “not into birdwatching” usually end up carrying binoculars by the second morning.
A: Check-in: 2:00 PM | Check-out: 11:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out are available on request, subject to availability, at an additional charge. All bookings are non-refundable — please review your dates carefully before confirming. Valid photo ID is required for all guests aged 18+ at check-in. Unmarried couples are welcome.
✦ Book directly on seclude.in for the best available rate and preferred cottage selection.
A: Simple mountain-weather food done properly. Expect hearty North Indian meals, comfort favourites, warm breakfasts, grills by the bonfire, and food that somehow tastes better after a long walk outdoors.
Meals here are less about formal dining and more about the setting around them — chai with valley views, breakfast in cold morning air, and dinners that naturally stretch longer around a fire.
✦ The evening bonfire and something hot to eat afterwards is a routine most guests settle into very quickly.
A: The cottages are spread across a valley inside one of India’s most celebrated birding regions, with forests on all sides and mountain views that change completely through the day. It’s ideal for birdwatchers, slow travellers, groups, and honestly anyone needing a few days away from noise and schedules.
✦ Pangot doesn’t really feel like a “trip.” It feels more like disappearing into the mountains for a while.
