The Fort Unchagaon

A: We’re in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, around 2 hours from Delhi NCR, making it one of the easiest heritage escapes from the city. The nearest railway station is Garhmuktesar (around 36 km / 45–50 minutes), while Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi is approximately 135 km (around 2.5–3 hours) away.

A: Fort Unchagaon is a 300-year-old living fort. Rather than being preserved as a museum, many of its original spaces are now part of the guest experience.

The fort has its own map and audio tour to help guests explore it. Follow the map, scan the QR code, and listen to the corresponding Spotify podcast episodes as you move through the different spaces, with each episode taking you through a step-by-step part of the fort’s history.

✦ The Sun Room, once home for the family’s Rolls Royce, now houses old photographs and serves as a common seating area.

✦ The Tiger Room, once the formal drawing room, displays the family’s collection of taxidermied hunts, with the names and dates recorded on the shields around them.

✦ The Air India Room preserves memorabilia from the family’s association with Air India, while the Hogs & Horses Room documents the family’s connection with pig sticking, an equestrian sport, through old equipment, boots, helmets and other artefacts.

✦ The fort’s other historic spaces include the Diwan Khana, where the Raja once held court and where royal ceremonies were conducted, the Dancing Courtyard, historically the women’s courtyard or ‘Zenana’ where village women would gather to sing and dance, and the Mehfil Dining, an equestrian-themed private dining room.

✦ The former horse stables now house the Pool, with horseshoe-shaped details retained in its entrance. Guests can also explore the Billiards Room, library, gardens and old corridors, where photographs, memorabilia and architectural details continue to tell the story of the fort.

A: Fort Unchagaon works particularly well for weddings.
Its courtyards, gardens, terraces, royal rooms, and heritage dining spaces offer different settings for ceremonies, cocktails, and smaller wedding functions, so the entire celebration can unfold across the property rather than in one event hall. The historic architecture and family memorabilia also mean there’s very little need to create a “destination wedding” atmosphere from scratch.
It is equally suited to intimate weddings, milestone birthdays, anniversaries, family celebrations, and reunions, with the team able to curate dining, décor and experiences around the occasion.

A: Yes. Fort Unchagaon gives teams enough space to build an offsite around both work and downtime, with indoor rooms for meetings and presentations and expansive lawns and courtyards for activities and evening programmes.

The day can include pickleball, badminton, squash, billiards, archery, pottery, darts and treasure hunt, while the fort’s heritage spaces can be used for storytelling sessions and more informal team interactions.

Evenings can take a more social turn with bonfires and BBQs, karaoke, movie nights, and talent shows. Talent shows can give teams a chance to perform beyond their usual roles and a curated awards night, a small way for us to make the team feel special. These can be set up across the property’s lawns, courtyards and indoor spaces depending on the format.

A: Absolutely. Located around two hours from Delhi NCR, Fort Unchagaon works equally well for a planned weekend stay or a shorter day out. A day visit can include lunch at the fort, a heritage property tour with an audio guide, walk through the mango orchards, a swim, and outdoor activities such as pickleball, archery or badminton. There are also plenty of indoor spaces and games if you’d rather keep things relaxed.

For an overnight stay, guests have more time to explore the fort and its history, enjoy the gardens and courtyards, arrange a candlelight dinner or bonfire, and take part in activities such as pottery, treasure hunts and other indoor games.

The property also works well for family outings, birthdays, anniversaries and small celebrations, so you can visit for a few hours or make it a complete weekend without needing to travel far from Delhi.
