Karthika Nivas, Thrissur
Seclude Karthika Nivas is a 150-year-old heritage home, thoughtfully restored as a boutique retreat in India’s cultural and gold capital. Nestled beside the Thannikundam river and surrounded by temples and traditional village life, it offers a peaceful, grounded space that reflects Kerala’s architectural and spiritual traditions.
The home’s origins can’t be precisely dated, and its stories are still unfolding. Through the careful preservation of original materials, design elements, and artwork, it remains a living project of cultural conservation—honouring, protecting, and sharing the region’s artistic and architectural legacy.
At the center of the house is the Nalukettu courtyard, a shared open space where guests naturally gather. Red oxide floors, hand-carved wooden pillars, traditional murals, and wind-guiding window grills preserve the details of a bygone era, alongside modern comforts and a serene wellness space rooted in Kerala’s traditional healing practices.
