Karthika Nivas, Thrissur

Seclude Karthika is a 150-year-old heritage home, thoughtfully restored as a boutique retreat in India’s cultural and gold capital. Nestled beside the Thannikundam river, and surrounded by temples and traditional village life, it offers a peaceful, grounded space that reflects Kerala’s architectural and spiritual traditions.
The home’s origins can’t be precisely dated, and its stories are still unfolding. Through the careful preservation of original materials, design elements, and artwork, Seclude Karthika is not only a place to stay—it’s a living project of cultural conservation. The aim is to honour, protect, and share the region’s artistic and architectural legacy.
At the center of the house is the Nalukettu courtyard—a shared, open space where guests naturally gather. Red oxide floors, hand-carved wooden pillars, traditional murals, and wind-guiding window grills preserve the details of a bygone era. At the same time, the home is equipped with modern comforts and includes a serene wellness space rooted in Kerala’s traditional healing practices.
