Beyond Dharamshala: What to eat, see, do in Palampur
A bird’s eye view of Palampur, near Dharamshala, is likely to resemble a quirky patchwork of greens mottled with bursts of brilliant hues. Here, winding roads snake through lush tea gardens dotted with canopied trees–jacaranda, silver oak, mulberry and wild cherry trees that erupt into soft flurries of bubble-gum pink during the season. Mountain streams, descended from perennial snows, crisscross grass-clad pastures and sylvan glades and rippling fields of mustard gleam under a brilliant blue sky. The mighty Dhauladhar is a constant, steadying presence. Its snow-capped peaks, refulgent in the sun, peeks from behind emerald hills and terraced slopes, peers through the branches of centuries-old deodars and sometimes, it emerges in full might, rising from the blurry edges of swelling shrublands.
