The cheeky yellow and sky blue bungalow also houses “Cafe Seclude” the all- day dining cafe and restaurant open to in-house and walk-in guests where the eclectic menu offers salads, soups, Indian, Continental and local fare. A head-turning mural by renowned street artist AnpuVarkey covers one wall and the singular long tree trunk table is symbolic of the harmony and brotherhood of breaking bread together.

Things to Do

Mussoorie is a hill station and a municipal board in the Dehradun District of the northernIndian state of Uttarakhand. It is located about 35 km from the state capital of Dehradun and 290 km north from the national capital of New Delhi. This hill station is situated in the foothills of the GarhwalHimalayan range. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of ‘greater Mussoorie’, as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani being at an average altitude of 1,880 metres (6,170 Ft.).

Mussoorie was founded by Lt. Frederick Young of East India Company. Lt. Young came to these hills for the sole purpose of bagging some game.

Mussoorie Attractions

  • The Kempty Falls are situated on the hilly tracks of Uttarakhand, India, 15 km from Mussoorie on the Chakrata Road. This place is located nearly 1364 meters above sea level at 78°-02 ‘East longitude and 30° -29’ North latitude.
    Kempty Falls is a beautiful location to take a dip in water falling from an altitude of 40 feet. It is a perfect place to take a short swim or fish.
    Kempty Falls, one of the most renowned waterfalls in Uttarakhand offers a mesmerizing panoramic view as the water falls from the great height. The pond formed at the bottom of the falls makes an excellent spot for swimming, fishing and bathing. A flight of stairs leads to the pond where one can soak in fun with friends and family. Quite famous among the tourists as a picnic spot, this perennial waterfall is crowded almost throughout the year.
  • Gun Hill, The history of Gun Hill dates back to the pre-independence period. It is said that a canon was fired from the Gun Hill every afternoon to help people know the time and adjust their watches. At a height of about 400 ft. above the Mall, the Gun Hill now accommodates the water reservoir of Mussoorie.
    Gun Hill is the second highest peak of Mussoorie and one of the most famous destinations of the hill station. Gun Hill offers an enchanting view of some of the highest Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and the Gangotri group, along with a picturesque view of the Mussoorie town and the Doon Valley. One of the most exciting features of this place is a 400 m thrilling Ropeway ride to land from this exceptionally beautiful, misty peak.
  • The Mall, Located in the heart of Mussoorie, the Mall is a colonial relic with benches and lampposts filled with modern shops, video game parlours and skating rinks. You can often find the author Ruskin Bond browsing the Cambridge Bookstore. There would be a lot of local vendors around including photographers who can click awesome photographs for you. Do try out a photograph in local traditional attire here.
    Most Famous promenade in Mussoorie is The Mall at the height of above 2000 mtrs. Almost every visitor of Mussoorie has to visit the beautiful Mall Road which stretches from Picture Palace at east to the Library at the west.
  • Clouds End, 6 km west off the Library, the Cloud’s end marks the end of Mussoorie. It is covered by thick jungles and tracks 2 km up to the Benog Wildlife Sanctuary. It offers a lovely walking track. This place offers a great view of Aglar River Valley.
    Clouds End is a place where visitors can enjoy tranquility and pleasant weather at the same time. A heritage, beautiful architecture Bungalow can be seen at Clouds End which was built by Major Swetenham, a British in 1838 regarded as one of oldest building in Mussoorie.
  • Benog Wildlife Sanctuary, Famous for its almost-extinct mountain quails, deer, leopards and red-billed blue magpie, the Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is well known to house rare species of birds and offers an excellent trail of pine-clad slopes surrounded by Himalayan peaks for a refreshing walk.
  • Sir George Everest’s House, where one can find the remains of the building and laboratory of Sir George Everest, the Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843. It is after George Everest that the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest is named. It is 6 km from Gandhi Chowk / Library Bazaar and is accessible by vehicle, although the road is very rough beyond Haathi Paon. The place provides a view of Doon Valley on one side and a panoramic view of the Aglar River valley and the snow peaks of the Himalayan range on the other. It is a scenic walk from Library Bazaar, and a picnic spot.
  • Lal Tibba, the highest point in Mussoorie is situated in Landor area, which is the oldest populated place in the destination. The site was also referred to as a Depot Hill, due to the presence of depot in the region.
    The hill houses a camp of The Indian Military services and Broadcasting stations or towers of All India Radio and Doordarshan. The beautiful views of sunrise and sunset from this vantage point can also be seen by travellers visiting Lal Tibba.
  • Soham Heritage Art Centre, the culture and tradition of Himalayas through paintings on canvasses, sculptures, frescoes, murals and scrap art. This art center has been developed with the aim of displaying the diversity and wisdom of the Himalayas in a single place through various art forms.
  • Camel Back Road, A beautiful peaceful walk under the nature will always boost calmness and inner peace. Camel Back Road provides the same experience in Mussoorie. The 3 km long road is named as Camel Back Road due to the presence of natural layout of rocks like a camels hump at the end of the road. Starting from Library point to Kurli Bazar, Camel Back Road is one of the must visit location in Mussoorie.
  • Jwalaji Temple (Benog Hill) Situated at an altitude of 2240 m, this temple is 9 km west of Mussoorie. It is situated on the top of Benog Tibba (Hill) and contains an old idol of Goddess Durga. There is a view of the Aglar River valley. It cannot be accessed by vehicle although a motor road goes most of the way from Mussoorie.
  • Company Garden, Located at 3 km from The Mall, Company Garden is a well maintained picnic spot with a mini lake, a flower garden and an amusement park in it. Also known as Municipal Garden, it is one of the best spots for picnic.
  • Bhatta Falls 7 km from Mussoorie on Mussoorie-Dehradun Road near Bhatta Village. Accessible by car or bus up to Bhatta from where the fall is 3 km by foot. A fall with different ponds for bathing and water amusements, an ideal place for a picnic.
